One of the major complications that can happen from a tear staining is an eye infection. Left untreated, simple tear staining can develop into inflammation that will lead to increased infections, cataracts and blindness.

Other problems can arise such from having your pet constantly pawing at the irritation from tear staining, is the whining when the staining become infected and the general malcontented demeanor of your dog as they try to deal with this.

When your dog paws at their eyes this can cause the infection to spread or even make your pet scratch themselves in the eye. A lacerated eye is a dangerous thing and can develop into minor vision problems or blindness.

For purely cosmetic reasons, canine tears and the subsequent staining, just looks terrible. Dogs with tear staining that forms on white fur, stands out much more than dark furred dogs and are harder to get out.
