Mange Complications Dogs | Mange Complications Canines
Aside from your dog having to suffer from crusty ear tips, incessant itching and hair loss, these pests are also a problem for human family members as well. For humans with a weakened or immature immune system such as seniors and children respectively, the transference of these microscopic pests can cause infections and rashes.
For those with compromised immune systems even minor bites can develop into far greater illnesses because of the body’s inability to fight. Fortunately these mites will cause only a short round of itching because they can’t reproduce on human skin so the irritation won’t last long but the initial invasion is a cause for disgust and alarm especially for young children.
Left untreated, these parasite bites will cause secondary infections that can weaken your pet’s immune system making it harder
to defend against other illnesses. The unsightly appearance of mange on dogs, patches of missing fur is often combined with red a raw skin, usually as a result of the pet’s incessant scratching and biting itself to find some relief.
This loss of fur is more than a cosmetic inconvenience because your pet’s hair is their first line of defense against environmental antagonists. Exposed skin is easily scratched and the open cuts can become infected. The less hair your animal has the more they will lose body heat and become open to colds and flues.
As with any condition that weakens your pet’s immune system, the initial problem may not be life threatening but its subsequent destruction of the host’s defenses creates a scenario for further illness.
