Dog Warts, Canine Warts

Dog Warts for the most part are a form of non-cancerous tumors and growths. Granted there are some forms of warts that are not benign.  Young dogs and old dogs can get dog warts. Dog Warts are more common on older dogs sense there immune system is not as strong as it was when they where a pup.

Dog Warts can also bring on canine itching. This can make your dog scratch, lick and bite the area of the dog wart.  If the skin is broken it can cause bleeding or an infection in the wart area.  Viral Dog Warts that are caused by the papilloma virus are common and can go away on their own with proper care and vitamins. Dog Warts that are caused by papilloma virus are very contagious and have an incubation period of 30 to 60 days before dog warts are visible.

Dog warts are typical small growths on the dog’s skin, though they can form inside the mouth and around the gums and inner cheeks. They are often cauliflower shaped and tend to spread to more than just one wart if it is caused by the papilloma virus. Dog warts are not painful.

A vet can diagnose dog warts normally by just looking at them.  Dog warts are often skin colored or a whitish yellow. Your vet a can look at the warts and see if they need to be biopsied or not.

Keeping your dog health with the vitamins it needs can help protect them from Dog Warts. Prevention is key, for all of our pets. To have dog warts removed by a vet can cost a few hundred dollars. A vet will often recommend removing them to keep them from spreading. This can sometimes include using sedatives to make your dog relax before removal of the dog warts. The other way they are removed is surgically and it is done under anesthesia.
